Ellen Jenifer Rickard

Ellen Rickard seems to have been something of a pioneer for female geographers and teachers.

Her story was told in this book by the RGS-IBG. It describes her involvement with the GA, which included a place on the GA's council - one of the first female officers. She was particularly important during the war, taking over from J F Unstead (who also had his own post on the blog a few days ago). She was also connected with A J Herbertson, as were many during that period, when they became involved with the GA. She had a great many roles within the GA.

It would be lovely to be able to source an image of Ellen Rickard.
