GA Conference video... and GA Strategy video

Two videos from the GA were released this week.

The GA Conference video is here. There's a few shots of the audience at mine and Matt Podbury's session along the way.

There are also new Summer issues of the GA's journals, and the GA Magazine has a conference review as well.

Steve Brace has also shared a video linked to the new GA Strategy which runs from 2026-31.

The GA's new Strategy focuses on:

1. Supporting geography as a subject - particularly at a time of curriculum change
2. Supporting primary and secondary teachers
3. Inspiring and supporting the Next Generation of Geographers

Teaching Geography journal is 50 years old this year, having appeared for the first time in 1975 under the editorship of Patrick Bailey. I have blogged about the journal many times here.

50 years of Teaching Geography

The Summer 2025 issue of 'Teaching Geography' reflects on 50 years of the journal. There's a look back at four of the editors of the journal and their reflections.

50 years of Teaching Geography journal

I've previously blogged about the origins of Teaching Geography journal under its first editor Patrick Bailey.

The current editor: Richard Bustin reflects on the 50th anniversary of the journal and how it has changed in the most recent Spring 2025 issue.

It includes a nice summary of the development of the journal by former GA President Richard Daugherty.

Primary Geography Journal - Spring 2025

The theme for this issue, edited by Ben Ballin, is the Geography of Togetherness. 

I am very pleased to have an article in this issue on this theme. 

Thanks to Ben for asking me to contribute some time ago. 

Subscribers can now download the digital issue and print copies will be arriving shortly. There are some other excellent pieces in this issue too as always, including a lovely contribution by Sharon Witt and Helen Clarke and also a personal piece from Steve Rawlinson on the loss of the Sycamore Gap tree.

In my article I talk about rural and urban ex/inclusion of certain groups and offer some suggestions of projects that might be of interest to explore this topic with pupils.

One of the GA's great contributions to the geography teaching community is the journals that are published three times a year. 

The Autumn 2024 issues are appearing and will be on their way to subscribers shortly.
