1996 - Fire

In 1996, the GA had a setback when a fire struck the warehouse where its stock was stored other than the Handbooks which had been newly printed.

This destroyed a large part of the GA's stock, and Fran Royle, who was then Production Editor (Publications Officer) and the other Solly St. staff had to order reprints of publications to restock the warehouse...

This warehouse was a temporary location as the GA was moving from Fulwood Road to Solly Street at the time:
Eventually we were forced to move most of our stock to the premises of a local storage company. Unfortunately, they moved our stock to a less secure location without telling us, and a fire there destroyed the lot. Cue lengthy wrangles with insurers and urgent reprints of crucial books, particularly the Handbooks.
